Use this helpful guide in an emergency

Infant and Child CPR ABC’s

1. Check the victim: if unresponsive, do CPR for 5 cycles (about 2 minutes) then Phone 911,
or send someone to phone while you do CPR.

2. Airway: open the airway with the head tilt-chin lift maneuver.

3. Breathing: to check breathing, look, listen, and feel. If victim not breathing
normally, give 2 slow breaths (each breath to make the chest rise).

4. Compressions: immediately begin chest compressions. 30 compressions to 2 breaths (approx. 100 per minute).

5. Continue: “pump and blow”: cycles of 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breath.

Continue uninterrupted until advanced life support arrives.

Being prepared for an emergency such as a heart attack, stroke, and cardiac arrest or choking (airway obstruction) may increase a victim’s chance of survival if you provide CPR. Knowing how to perform CPR, and initiating it right away, will increase a person’s survival time until EMS or advanced medical care arrives and can take over.
